Ramesh Singh is an independent consultant and researcher. Until end of 2016 he served as International Organisation Director of Greenpeace International and prior to that as the Open Society Foundations’ Director for Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning from 2011 to 2013, building on a spell as visiting fellow at the Hauser Center for not for profit organisations from 2010 to 2011.
His work with ActionAid spanned over 20 years, initially in The Gambia, then as Country Director in Ethiopia, his home country Nepal, and Vietnam, as Asia Regional Director in Bangkok, as Operations Director in London, and eventually as ActionAid International’s Chief Executive for several years. Much of his life has been spent working first hand with development issues in Asia and Africa. He was trained as an agronomist-seed technologist at the University of Edinburgh, UK and came to ActionAid with a depth of experience in agricultural research. He then led ActionAid’s process of internationalization and the delivery of the organization’s strategic objectives of Rights to End Poverty.
Ramesh takes a special interest in strategic leadership and change management of complex international teams and non-profit organisations; social justice and sustainability programming; design, development and management of accountability and learning; partnerships, social movements, and policy advocacy.
